Despite the current most favorable scenario, the manufacturing of such drugs would only suffice for approximately 100 million people – fewer than 10% of eligible patients, per the WHO.
The guideline encourages governments and firms to expand access, by strategies such as voluntary licensing.
Exclusive production rights on a key compound – the primary ingredient of a leading brand – is set to lapse in multiple nations in 2026.
